Laminated glass, regard as “Safety glass”, consist of two or more panes of glass with one or more layers of polyvinyl butyral (PVB) sandwiched between them and treated. The glass panes can be basic float glass or tempered or heat strengthened panel. If the glass is broken fragments tend to adhere to the PVB interlayer thereby reducing the risk of injury from falling glass and helping to resist further impact or weather damage. PVB membrane has good tenacity performance and when the laminated glass breaks due to violent force, the PVB will absorb a large amount of impact energy and disperse it rapidly. Therefore, it’s hard to break the laminated glass and the shape of the glass may be maintained even if being broken. Furthermore, personnel inside and outside the buildings will not be hurt by the glass fragment.

Laminated Glass Advantages

The most important characteristics of laminated glass are fall-out protection due to the ability of the interlayer to support and hold the glass when broken as well as the reduced ability to penetration the opening. The ability to resist various kinds of penetration is dependent upon a number of factors including thickness of the glass and the type of interlayer selected.

Additionally, FSG laminated glass is available in various configurations for commercial glazing applications. To provide a wide array of design options, as well as meet various performance levels, FSG laminated glass can feature any combination of tinted glass substrates, high-performance coatings, printed patterns and pigmented interlayers. Laminated glass also offers a greater availability of coatings than monolithic glass. Low-E coatings which cannot be exposed, and therefore cannot be used with monolithic glass, can be used inside a laminated unit where they are protected.

Compared to monolithic glass, laminated glass units also have more aesthetic possibilities. The interlayers used in laminated glass are available in a variety of colors and opacities. In addition, the Low-E coating and silk-screen pattern, if desired, are applied to the exterior ply of glass leaving the interior ply available for additional treatment. For a spandrel location, a full coverage opaque ceramic frit can be applied to the inner face. For vision areas where daylight is desired but view through needs to be minimized, a translucent ceramic frit can be applied to the surface facing the airspace.

Aesthetic

Laminated glass interlayers offer a selection of color and opacity not achievable with other glass products such as coatings, glass substrates, silk-screen or spandrel glass. This is especially true with bright, vivid colors as well as opaque or translucent / frosted aesthetic requirements.

Safety

FSG architectural laminated glass products with a minimum 0.38mm pvb interlayer comply with GB 15763.3-2009, ANSI Z97.1-2009, BS 6206, AS/NZS 2208:1996, which are the industry safety standards for glazing materials.

Ultraviolet Protection

Laminated glass provides 99% UV light blockage at the wavelength range of ~300 – 380 nanometers.

Multiple Plies Laminated Glass

Despit normal laminated glass structure, we are able to produce multi-layers DGU to achieve architecturer’s designing intentions.
